A work by Peter Bowen is a must have of any current Collector of art. His work has been featured recently in some of the most important collections from his recent display in the immensely prestigious Ruth Borchard collection at Kings to his seminal position in the Jubilee Exhibition at Alexandra Palace. With buzz around his art and with a threadneedle prize on the horizon his work is increasing in value by the day.
This piece has been featured in the annual Royal Society of Portrait Painters at the MA gallery.
His use of a muted and selective colour palette give each piece of his work a harmonious synergy; his ability to blend seamlessly delicate brush strokes with bold Palette knife motifs ensures conveyance in every aspect of his work. His ability to capture the true essence of his subjects yet do so in such an expressionist way has seen many of his works compared with the great Lucien Freud.
Bowen is a self-taught figurative artist who took up painting at 57 after a life of Technical work. He works by starting from a basis of representation, he creeps up on the image from off-centre, trying to avoid explicit representation of details and always open to accidents and unintentionally useful marks. In peters own words ‘A successful picture might invoke the spirit of the subject rather than a physically accurate representation’.
The subject of this piece is a very fine songwriter and artist called Margo Buchanan, a successful singer and writer who has had shared the stage with musical greats Bob Dylan, Joni Mitchell, Tina Turner, Van Morrison, as well as many more icons of the music world.
This is a great opportunity to not only invest into a brilliant artist with a sure return in years to come, but a brilliant opportunity to own some of the most rousing and inspiring impressionist to come out of England in recent years.
