Danish Teak Extendable Dinnng Table and 6 Chairs by Thomas Harvel for Farstrup of Denmark, designed and crafted in 1962.
A stunningly crafted piece by iconic Danish designer, the wood that it is constructed in absolutely beautiful, the incredibly rare designed scissor legs constructed in amazing grain West-African Afromosia. The table top is made in a paler more richly patinated Danish Teak in contrast to the deep tone Afromosia legs.
The Chairs are ergonomically designed and are so clearly designed at the advent of the Organic Modernist movement started by Hans J Wegner and Arne Jacobsen of who Thomas Harvel was a student. The chairs are made in Danish Teak and have a beautiful pattern; the original material Bouclé on chairs are in an olive green, so classic of the era and the chic and stylish mid century Danish tastes.
The opening mechanism is extremely simple, help together by two clips that you undo and then the two leafs and the legs come apart and the separate leaves drop into it. The size of the table at full extension is extremely grande, fitting up to 10 people around it.
